Water for Cheedigunta
VILLAGE PROFILE OF CHEEDIGUNTA
There are three bore-wells in the village of Cheedigunta. While two of them are completely contaminated, the other one generally yields low and even dries up during summer. The well that is available in the village is located in the midst of agricultural fields and often gets contaminated with agriculture effluents. So the only source is the bore-well which yields low and is insufficient to cater to the needs of the entire village. About 6 hours of each family's time is spent in fetching water only, killing a lot of their community time.
As the villagers have discovered the right solution to solve their drinking water problem, they have shown interest to invest their labor contribution. They have even formed a 11 member Village Development Committee for this purpose. The identified spring source is at a distance about 1.6 kilometers near forest Konda hillock. The record of the elevation at proposed source shows 610 meters and 543 meters at the village level. The request of the community is genuine and recommended for the Gravity Fed Water Supply System to solve the drinking problem of the village for the present and future generations. The community has also agreed to handle the maintenance by saving some portion of their earnings and contributing towards the repairs of the system, as & when required.
