Water for Lakshmipuram
VILLAGE PROFILE OF LAKSHMIPURAM
The village of Lakshmipuram is divided into two streets, one street being dependent on a well for drinking water and the other street being dependent on the spring. The well yields very low and even dries up during the summer. It gets contaminated with agriculture effluents very often. About 6 hours of each family's time is spent in fetching water alone and is killing a lot of community time.
As the villagers discovered the right way to solve the drinking water problem, they showed interest in investing their labor as a contribution towards the cause. They formed a 9 member Village Development Committee to tap the identified spring source, which is at a distance about 0.3 kms from Konda hillock.
The record of the elevation at proposed source shows 814 meters and 845 meters at the village level. The request of the community has thus been considered as genuine and recommended for the Gravity Fed Supply System. By using the method of Solar / RAM / OHT, the drinking problem of the village can be solved for the present and future generations. The community has also agreed upon bearing the maintenance cost by saving some portion of their earnings and contributing it towards the repair of the system.
