Water for Petrayi
There are two borewells in the village. One is at a school which is at a distance of about 300 meters from the village. Women have to fetch water from there by crossing a Vagu (small stream). The other bore-well in the village is completely abandoned. There is also an open well is also there in the middle of the village but it is used for the cattle and goes dry in summer.
Hence there is a great need for providing safe drinking water for the people of this village. A study revealed that all women spend almost 6 hours each day in fetching water for their family's daily usage. It has to be also noted that the pathway to fetch water from this source is rather steep and slippery.
As the villagers have discovered the right solution to solve their drinking water problem, they have shown interest to bring in their labor contribution. So they have formed a 15 member Village Development Committee to reach the identified spring source, which is at a distance about 1.4 kms near Boddagondi hillock.
The elevation at the proposed source has been recorded as 601 meters and 532 meters at the village level. The request of the community is genuine and has thus been recommended for the Gravity Fed Water Supply System to solve the drinking water problem of the village for the present and future generations. The community has also agreed upon the maintenance part by saving some portion of their earnings towards the repairs of the system.
